We Grow Our Heritage

At Gibbsville Orchard we grow 'old variety' apples - the kind that our immigrant ancestors grew. Dutchess, Fall Stripe, Puritan, Russet, Snow Apples and Yellow Transparent.

Along with the 'old variety' apples, we have many other apple varieties available, see the list to the right.

The harvest times are approximate - and they vary from year to year. We invite you to stop out and visit us - have a sample of our award winning Fresh Sweet Apple Cider and try an apple or two. You won't be disappointed.

Apple Storage

Storage of your apples once you've picked out your favorites, is important! Generally speaking, varieties vary somewhat in keeping qualities.

For best results:

• store in a cool - moist spot at 32 to 40 degrees
• Store in the bags we sell our apples in to keep flavor and the moisture at its best
• Don't allow them to freeze. Apples ripen six to ten times faster at room temperature than if they were refrigerated
• One or two days sitting on a counter top and the fresh crunch of your apples is lost forever

How Much?? How Many??

1 lb Apples consists of:

• 4 small apples
• 3 medium apples
• 2 large apples

Two medium apples are equivalent to one cup grated.

A peck of apples weighs 10 lbs. A bushel weighs 40 pounds and will yield 20-24 quarts of applesauce.

For Eating or Cooking??

Tart, firm apples are favorites for cooking and sweeter apples are best eaten raw. We have many varieties and options. Please ask, we will be glad to help you with your choices.
